Guitar! Listen to my new single

From 21 September I’m touring the country with my first theater show ‘Gitaarmannen: van Clapton tot Sheeran’ (Guitar Heroes: From Clapton to Sheeran), and I thought that was a perfect moment to write a song about the instrument that has given me so much. That song became ‘Guitar’. Last 16 August I turned 39 and I realised that exactly 30 years ago, on my 9th birthday, I got my very first guitar. It was a super cheap model costing 75 guilders. You can see it on the artwork of the single. That photo was taken on that same 9th birthday.

I still remember that day clearly. In the morning I’d had my first guitar lesson, and when I got home I went straight to practising furiously. That didn’t go without a struggle, and I clearly remember the furious practising turning into furious foot-stomping. ‘It. Won’t. Work!!11’. It was a tough start. But I quickly felt that we were going to be inseparable. The guitar has brought me so many beautiful things. It was a companion during the moments I felt alone. It brought comfort when loved ones passed away. It brought happiness when I decided to pursue my musical dream, and took me to the United States, England and Italy, among other places. It provided the soundtrack of my life.
