Ed Does the First Virtual Theatre Tour Ever: Van Huis Uit
Singer/songwriter Ed Struijlaart is finding creative ways to deal with the Covid crisis and comes up with the first virtual theatre tour ‘Van Huis Uit’ (From Home).
Struijlaart was one of the first Dutch musicians to start livestreaming from his own home. These Quarantine Sessions paid off. “It’s given me quite a lot - I did four of them in total and these sessions have by now been watched by thousands of people,” says Ed Struijlaart. The shows were free to follow via his channels on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. People could donate by throwing money into his virtual guitar case. “The principle is ‘pay what you like’ - people can decide for themselves what they think it’s worth. This way even people on a tight budget can enjoy live music in these strange times.”
After four sessions it was time for something new. Ed Struijlaart, a much-welcomed presence in the theatres, came up with the Netherlands’ first virtual theatre tour ‘Van Huis Uit’. Through management AT Next, contact was made with the theatres and within a few days the first 10 shows were scheduled. The shows are broadcast via the theatres’ own channels (Facebook and YouTube), no ticket required, as here too admission is free and people can throw money into Ed’s virtual guitar case during the show.
“I love playing in theatres, the audience is wonderful. Last year I performed 70 times on stage with my Gitaarmannen show. During this ‘Van Huis Uit’ tour I’ll be playing songs from my new EP coming out this autumn, but also the best songs from the Gitaarmannen show.”
Struijlaart tours virtually from April 30th through May 16th at 10 theatres across the Netherlands.
